eFIG is the trade membership organisation representing interior landscapers who face a whole different set of restrictions to gardeners. It’s not so much working in the elements as introducing plants to improve health and safety! From small to large installations of plants, interior landscapers must be mindful of designing and installing plants in a location where the plants will thrive and maintain their health and beauty. This is necessary not just aesthetically for the client but also to ensure that the best is achieved by the plant. It’s not just the passion for plants but also our need for plants! Plants indoors in business are used for many purposes: For aesthetic reasons To enhance the design of the building For signing and partitions For noise and temperature control To improve perception of a business For positive health benefits For staff motivators The latter two are of particular importance perhaps because they are even more subliminal than the others. It’s apt that we mention some of these in World Space Week (4 – 10 October) when some of the early research took place for NASA about how plants clean the air. Whilst this most natural of processes for plants is one of the best known, plants have other very useful qualities too: Plants clean the air naturally making sure that toxins emitted by numerous other occupants of your business(people, carpeting, man-made materials etc) are absorbed Just one plant on or by a desk will dispel negative vibes so that you can be sure your employees are more positive and can therefore concentrate better and perform to their best ability Plants keep your staff calm and stress-free reducing days taken sick due to both stress and minor physical ailments like colds and headaches Plants keep your staff happier and motivated Plants help your teams to be more creative and better at problem solving Plants clock up another achievement eFIG are proud that after considerable discussion with the UK Green Building Council that they have recommended to BREEAM that interior planting be one of the considerations recommended for this sustainability building standard next year.
