The Knitted GardenIf you think that gardening is confined to the green fingered community, think again! Inspired by the Plasticine Garden at the Chelsea Flower show, an intergenerational knitting and crochet project is on display in Bournemouth. The lottery funded community project in Bournemouth has led to a wonderful exhibition named Blooming Marvellous. The exhibition is currently at its first venue at Bournemouth Library (until June 4th) and will shortly start touring the Dorset area - plans are afoot for displays further afield in areas such as Bristol and Leicester. The project was the brainchild of artist Pauline Stanley who facilitated the bringing together of 1500 people in the local community so that all ages and abilities could participate in creating this unique craft project. The aim of the project was to ensure that skills are handed down through the generations together with the exploration of knitting and crochet as an art medium. There is a huge variety of flowers and plants on display including roses, fuchsias, peonies and primroses to name a few. Items on display include trees, flower beds, trellis and hanging baskets, vegetable allotments, garden wildlife and insects, garden ponds and perhaps the most amusing of all, a washing line complete with knitted undies!
